HOW TO CHOOSE A HOLIDAY – MORE INFORMATION, LESS DISAPPOINTMENT
You are excited about your holiday months ahead. You have a vision of where you want to go, and what you want to do. But there are too many options nowadays. And also many people, who experience only disappointment. They paid for the hotel on the beach, but the beach was 100 meters away and they had to cross two-lines traffic. Air condition was only in the reception area, there was a sauna in their room instead. Buffet dining consisted of 2 options. I am sure that you have heard something like this before. How to avoid it?
Nowadays, access to information is easier than at anytime before. People share their experiences, photos, and comments. And you can take advantage of this. Take a seat, it will be a ride through the website. I use Google as my favorite search engine.
- Choose the accommodation/hotel/resort/service (I will use ‘hotel’ from now on). It does not matter if you will choose this travel agency as part of a complete package or you will choose it by yourself and put together your own holiday. If you have more options, you can compare them.
- Check the comments on the website where you found the hotel. Find more travel agencies and check if it is a part of their offer, too. Check the comments there.
- You can find many more relevant reviews on international websites. I read and also write reviews for TripAdvisor, Booking, and GoogleMaps. Some of these reviews can be in different languages. Use Google Translate. Easy.
- Do you want to stay in the hotel during all your holiday or do you want to discover hidden gems around? Maybe evening walks? On Google Maps, you can check the surrounding of the hotel. Interesting places, restaurants, promenades, souvenir shops. You can find all this there in a few seconds.
One final piece of advice. People often share more complaints than compliments. When they are happy, they do not have a need to share the review. But when they are upset, a large percentage of these will leave a review. Use your common sense. The fact that someone was unhappy does not mean that you will be too. We all have various standards and expectations.
