SHOCKING, FUNNY, UNUSUAL – part 1
I believe that every traveler experiences something unexpected along the way sometimes. Maybe once a year. Maybe on every trip. And these stories, short or long are the best ones to tell. They are interesting, something you will be able to remember when you are older and most of the memories will fade away. Let’s start with the first 3 of mine…
1. Am I going to see that credit card ever again?
It was one of my trips when I took the lesson. Take the cash with you. Always!!!
The morning on my way to the Great Wall of China. We took a small break near the parking lot while our tour guide was buying the tickets. There have been a few souvenirs shops. I took a chance and decided to buy the only two things I am bringing from all the places I am traveling to – a t-shirt and a postcard. I chose some and handed over my credit card. I haven’t been in such a remote place for a while so I didn’t realize that credit card machine is not available everywhere. The stand owner explained to me that she doesn’t have the credit card machine, but her neighbor has. She took my card and left the shop. The tour guide was waving at us with the tickets from the other side. I turned, seeing the woman with my card going to the shop down the street. She was fast! I started running there. Paid. Then I was running back up the hill to meet the rest of the group. Already tired and the trip has just begun!
2. When shopping souvenirs in rush…
The situation from the story above. I had about 10 seconds to decide which t-shirt I want to buy. I am collecting only one type of them, the classic one colored with “I ❤️ name of the city/place”. In that rush, I bought I love BJ. Beijing for them. But try to type it to Google… It looked like my colleagues who have been with me on the trip will pee from laughing after I showed it to them.
3. When you are taller than most of the population. And different.
I was having a walk in Kuala Lumpur. Just before Christmas, in a city full of people, I was headed to the shopping mall to see the decorations and buy some Christmas presents. I was about to enter when a young man approached me. He touched my arm so I would turn to him. He was looking at me as if I was somehow weird. And then he told me that he just had to approach me because I am so tall, so beautiful, he wanted to know my name and if I am a tourist and so. Just a random unknown guy. It was so sweet. And pretty unusual. We changed the Instagram accounts and he follows my traveling around the world since then. P.S.: I didn’t have any make-up on, I was tired after a long flight and I was completely sweaty from that unbelievable humidity in Malaysia. Well, like a star. From the drama Awake.
